Civetta resort is one of the smaller winter resorts in the Dolomiti Superski system, situated close to Belluno, above the villages of Zoldo, Palafavera and Selva di Cadore on one side, and better known and more beautiful village of Alleghe. these are also the names of the four resorts that together comprise Civetta resort, named after the impressive peak of M. Civetta, whose Dolomitean rocks precipitously rise up to even 3218 m above ski runs. Opposite, on the other side of Zoldo, is the peak of M. Pelmo (3168), which will award you with breathtaking scenery during sunny weather (picture on the right).
From 1000 m above sea level, which is the altitude of Alleghe, and other somewhat higher villages, you will be taken to the resort by a system of ski lifts comprised of 2 gondola lifts (one from Alleghe, and one from Zoldo), 12 chair lifts and 11 surface lifts which are sometimes impossible to avoid. Unfortunately, a part of the resort is still equipped with somewhat older lifts, while the chair lifts on the trails above Alleghe are mostly modern and renewed.
80 km of versatile ski trails will satisfy every skier. As opposed to the trails of the neighboring Trevalli, which are mostly classified as blue, this resort, apart from many blue ones, also has quite a number of red trails, as well as a few black ones. The criteria for classifying trails are somewhat lesser at this resort, so you may act surprized when noticing that you are skiing down the "black" run.
Already a rule with the Dolomite resorts, the trails here are excellently prepared. If you take a few of them in one descent, you can ski over up to 1100 m of altitude. Most trails are rather long. Some that are definitely worth mentioning are the red runs in the area of Selva di Cadore (21), Alleghe (13 and 7), and the black and red ones in Zoldo (36, 37, 38 and 39). An interesting fact for those who like to go sightseeing; parts of Civetta comprise a well known tour of the WW1 (Giro della Grande Guerra). You won't get lost easily, because all the trails and ski lifts are marked with a number and a name; waymarks are many and clear, and a pocket ski map of the resort is realistic and precise.
Kids can enjoy special parks and fun facilities constructed just for them (above photo). Also there are magic carpets and slower chair lifts designed for children. The interesting fact is that ski schools at this resort have their offices on the spot, that is, on the resort itself (photo on the right). So if you wish to attend a ski school, you can look for available ski teacher on the spot. The price of an hour ski lesson is EUR30.
Apart from its beautiful scenery, this resort is also known for one of the most beautiful trails for night skiing, as well as for night snow park, which is a rarity. In fact, it is the first park of the kind in the Dolomity Superski System. The trails descending to Zoldo are fully illuminated, as well as the snowpark with the belonging chairlift. Additional thrill and sense of challenge comes when one realizes that the trails, of the total length of 5 km, are marked red and black and really nice to ski on. You can enjoy night skiing every day except Sunday and Monday, from 19 – 23 p.m., although these working hours can extend substantially.
Nice terraces and riffugios whose architecture fits into mountain scenery will be your favorrite stops during sunny days. There are plenty of them on the resort, as well as fast food inns. The prices are similar to the ones at the neighboring resorts, that is, relatively high, However, the menu is accordingly very rich and tasteful.
If you plan to ski in Civetta for more than a day, consider booking your accommodation on the side opposite from Zoldo, such as, for example Alleghe. It is situated on a lake and is a much nicer place for longer stay since there are a couple of resorts adjoining it. Thus you can set off for a small ski safari and visit the Trevalli ski area or Marmolada resort if you get bored with Civetta.
